The pace of decline for MLS residential sales in 2010 was lower in areas outside Calgary than it was within the city.
In releasing its year-end MLS data, the Calgary Real Estate Board said single-family home sales and condominium sales in Calgary metro were down 16.2 per cent and 18.1 per cent respectively compared with a year ago.
But in the towns outside Calgary market, MLS sales dropped by 10.6 per cent from last year and transactions fell by eight per cent in the country residential market which includes acreages in the Calgary area.
CREB reported there were 3,525 MLS sales in towns outside of Calgary in 2010 at an average sale price of $359,327, which was up 1.9 per cent from a year ago.
There were 632 country residential sales for an average price of $788,890, up 2.1 per cent from last year.
In the rural land market, there were 214 transactions for an average sale price of $426,197. Sales were up by 5.4 per cent from 2009 and the price decreased by 1.7 per cent.
