For the first time this year, new housing prices were up in the Calgary census metropolitan area in June, according to Statistics Canada.

The federal agency reported Thursday that prices rose by 0.1 per cent from the previous month.

“Higher land prices were largely offset by builders reducing prices because of market conditions,” said Statistics Canada.

The agency’s New Housing Price Index also rose by 0.7 per cent year-over-year in the Calgary CMA.

“Year-over-year increases in that CMA have been slowing since the start of the year,” it said.

In Canada, the NHPI climbed by 0.3 per cent in June, largely as a result of gains in Ontario, said Statistics Canada, adding it was the third consecutive monthly price increase for the Canada-level index.

On a year-over-year basis, the NHPI rose 1.3 per cent in June.

In Edmonton, new home prices dropped by 0.1 per cent month-over-month but were up 0.4 per cent year-over-year.
